Masdevallia Beth Hauck
(M. coccinea alba x M. mejiana)
Plant ID: 02827
Interesting how the pink color (probably from M. coccinea) came through even though the alba form was used for breeding. There were two slightly different color forms in the pot, perhaps two separate clones. The yellow flush across the central part of the flower comes from M. mejiana. The flower is intermediate in size between the two parents.
This orchid was named for our southern Illinois coordinator, Beth Hauck. The color is what made me decide to name this orchid for her. The pink symbolizes her passion for what she does with the Airedales. The contrasting yellow center is like a guiding light, which Beth is for both Airedales and volunteers alike in her area. Airedale rescue is lucky to have her.
