Masdevallia Carol Guthrie
(M. coccinea alba x M. Thumbelina)
Plant ID: 04380,04386/04381,04386
Additional Information: M. Thumbelina is a cross between M. instar and M. uniflora. In the clone on the far right you can see the influence of M. uniflora with the bright yellow center. M. uniflora also tends to produce hybrids closer to its smaller size. These flowers are considerably smaller than their M. constricta parent. M. instar influenced this hybrid with the occasional maroon tails and maroon stippling along the veins. M. coccinea had some influence in the form.
Carol Guthrie is one of Airedale rescue's coordinators for Ohio who handles the applications. The first bloom of this cross was the brighter-colored clone on the left. It reminded me of her bold approach to help rescue. She does a great job with the applications and is respected by the other volunteers in Ohio. After blooming the second two clones, it reminded me of her softer side I experienced when I got to meet her personally. The third clone with the yellow center shows her to be an Aire-Angel.
