Masdevallia Georgian Franczyk

(M. Midnight Plum x M. coccinea alba)

Plant ID: 03608/03588/03570/04349/04349(top row), 04347/04348/ 04346/04345(bottom row)

Clonal Name: 'Free Spirit' (on 03588)

Award: HCC/AOS of 78 points (on 03588) given on 12-17-2001 at the Great Lakes Judging Center.

Other Information: A large, graceful colorful flower on a tall stem with two shots of M. coccinea in the background. Interesting thing is that the other parent of M. Midnight plum is M. discoidea, which is a very squished-looking flower. M. coccinea dominated the form, but you can see a little of M. discoidea at the base of the dorsal sepal. Interesting, when I purchased this plant, there were two different clones in the same pot.

This hybrid was named after a good orchid friend, Georgian Franczyk. Georgian wanted a pink flower to carry her namesake and selected this cross. Little did she know it had an equally good white clone as well.
