Masdevallia John Carr
(M. hirtzii x M. Monarch)
Plant ID: 03035/04130/04130
Other Information: This bright gold flower is a pretty combination of the colors of the background species. M. hirtzii and M. veitchiana are orange. Many of the flowers of M. Monarch come out with the clear golds. M. hirtzii kept the flower size small despite the fact that M. macrura is in the background.
When I name an orchid for someone, there has to be something about the flower that reminds me of the person. Since most orchids are pretty, their traits usually lend themselves to us ladies. This time I have departed from the norm and named this cross for a special man. This hybrid has one thing that reminds me of John – its color. John has a heart of gold when it comes to the Airedales in general and Roofus in particular. Also, the parents of this cross are Masdevallia hirtzii x Masdevallia Monarch. Masdevallia Monarch exemplifies the time that John guided RMARC as it grew and bloomed into a wonderful organized network for Airedale rescue in Colorado.
