Masdevallia Pat Akehurst

(M. Heathii x M. yungasensis)

Plant ID: 01757(upper left)/01883(left), 01882(upper right), 01867(lower center)

02735(lower left)/03207(lower right)

Clonal Name: 'Lucious' (on 03207)

Award: HCC/AOS of 78 points (on 03207)

Additional Information: M. Heathii is M. ignea x M. veitchiana and the orange color only shows through on some of the clones. None of them that I have observed have the fine purple hairs of M. veitchiana. Others are actually yellow, peach, white or pink for a background color. The brighter orange ones tend to be smaller flowers. The form tends to take after M. veitchiana and M. ignea for the most part but the nodding dorsal caudae of M. ignea has not come through at all. The dark striping of M. yungasensis shows through on all the clones I have seen with mostly three stripes per sepal, and sometimes five as seen on the lower clone in the center. These plants are also very floriferous and I see them as a 'must have' in many collections.
