Masdevallia Vivian Durbin
(M. Pixie Lavender x M. coccinea alba)
Plant ID: 03575/04107(top row, 04157/04137(bottom row)
Clonal Name: 'David' (on 04137)
Award: HCC/AOS of 77 points (on 04137) given on 02-16-08 at the Great Lakes Judging Center.
Additional Information: Very elegant combination of the two parents. M. Pixie Lavender is a complex hybrid that has M. decumana, M. estradae and two shots of M. coccinea in the background. Crossed again with M. coccinea gives this wonderful hybrid with stems long enough to hold the flowers above the somewhat large plant.
This plant was named for an Airedale Terrier rescue friend, Vivian Durbin, from Missouri. Vivian handles Airedale rescue on the east side of Missouri and has done so successfully for several years. The elegance of the flower form and the brilliant, bold colors match her personality and terrier tenacity.
When I received an award on one of the clones of M. Vivian Durbin, Vivian chose the clonal name 'David' to name it after her favorite brother.
